We're Not in NYC Anymore!

Well, after a 2 week break from the blog due to some pre-term labor contractions and much needed sleep, we are back.

So, Friday the 13th was quite some day for us here in Norman! Especially for Brian, as he experienced his very first tornado.

I spent the first half of the day in Oklahoma City with my awesome Mimi. She was helping me find a nice fabric to recover our chair & a half. I mean, because the thing is nasty!!
Our horrible ottoman!!

Think this chair was near a window in NYC?

Then we went to lunch with my Pawpaw and Uncle Greg at one of Brian's favorite Oklahoma City joints.
Mmmmm... Johnnies!

I mean, can you blame him?
Uncle Greg's Dessert, not mine.

After some good super healthy food, I shopped around OKC for some other things I was in need of before heading back to Norman. Brian called while I was happily rummaging through the sale racks of Pottery Barn Kids and told me he wanted me on the road because he heard the weather was going to get bad. I didn't really listen. I mean, I was shopping and what does a NYer know about the Oklahoma weather?

I finally get in the car and head home to Norman. As I am driving, I see one of those dreaded wall clouds and start to think I should have stopped the shopping a bit sooner. I turn on the FM radio and end up in a dead stop traffic jam. About 10 minutes later I hear on the radio that the sirens are going off in Norman. NOT OKAY to be in the car people! NOT OKAY! Soooo I was trying to get to my friend Katies safe room but took a wrong turn in my panic. Instead of trying to drive through the storm I pulled over and ran into the nearest public establishment for shelter, The Riverwind Casino! Boy was that special! Nothing like a pregnant lady hanging out at the slot machines! Brian was safe and sound with his coworkers on campus. After it was all said and done, he did say he is okay with never dealing with another one of those again!

The tornado touched down about 5 blocks from our house. Brian took some photos but has yet to share them with me so this is all I got.
They closed one of the main streets in town to restore power.

More power line work.

This is a simple downed tree. Nothing like the one Brian took a pic of!

The next day there were supposed to be storms and they were thinking just as bad. So, these NY chickens packed up the car and headed to my parents house for the rest of the weekend to hide. It took a weekend out of working on the house but we slept better. Brian slept through the thunder storms in Ardmore that night on my parents screened in porch. He loved it.

Welcome to Oklahoma Hubs!
